Easy-to-remember passwords are also the easiest to hack, therefore we recommend the use of a password manager, in which you can store secure, randomly-generated passwords for each service you use. Since you will now only have one master password to remember, this can be long and complex, a sentence with numbers and special characters, for example. Most password managers can integrate with your web browser, so logins can be handled automatically. We recommend the following password managers:

  • 1Password (proprietary, cloud sync fee-based)
  • KeePass (open source, can use 3rd party cloud providers)

Our preferred password manager is KeePass, because it's open source. If you're looking for a simple out-of-the box option and don't mind paying a little for the convenience, we recommend 1Password. We can also provide private hosted password management in the form of Bitwarden, which comes with plugins for all major browsers and operating systems.

If you're not ready to use a password manager yet, please use strong passwords, at least 10 characters long with a mix of numbers and upper- and lowercase letters, and ideally a few special characters too.
